I Sigur Rós hanno annunciato la pubblicazione di Odin’s Raven Magic. Il nono album in studio della band islandese verrà rilasciato il prossimo 4 dicembre per Krunk/Warner Classics ed è anticipato dal singolo Dvergmál, che potete ascoltare di seguito.
Odin’s Raven Magic è una composizione orchestrale presentata in anteprima al Reykjavik Arts Festival nel 2002, che si ispira ad una sezione di un’opera letteraria islandese medievale su banchetto apocalittico.
La composizione è frutto del lavoro di Kjartan Sveinsson (che nel 2012 ha lasciato il gruppo) e Maria Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir, ed è stata registrata insieme alla Schola Cantorum of Reykjavik e L’Orchestre des Laureats du Conservatoire National de Paris.
Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson ha detto sull’album:
Hrafnagaldur Óðins [Odin’s Raven Magic] has lots of interpretation and implications that fire up the imagination… It’s a very visual poem, with images all about falling down, and a world freezing from north to south. It was an apocalyptic warning. Perhaps the people of the time felt it in their skins. Today, of course, Iceland is involved in environmental issues surrounding hydro-electric power and the destruction of the highlands. We are being warned again.
Odin’s Raven Magic verrà pubblicato a distanza di sette anni da Kveikur; lo scorso 2 ottobre Jón Þor “Jónsi” Birgisson ha pubblicato Shiver, il suo secondo album da solita.
