Ricorderete con amarezza che nell’ormai lontano 2012 Justin Vernon prese la decisione di staccare per un po’ la spina al progetto Bon Iver. Ricorderete – questo più recentemente – che in occasione del festival Eaux Claires proprio Bon Iver tornerà a calcare un palco, riaccendendo le speranze in tutti noi, fermi in adorazione e attesa.
Se poco tempo fa vi avevamo dato la notizia che si era aperto un terzo ciclo della carriera di Bon Iver, beh, siamo qui per annunciarvi un contrordine. Proprio Justin Vernon ha annunciato, in un’intervista a Grantland, che nel futuro prossimo non sono previsti né un tour né tantomeno un nuovo album per Bon Iver.
“As far as putting a record together, I don’t really know what’s happening. Our show [Eaux Claires, ndr] is our main focus. We don’t have anything booked after this. We don’t have any plans. We’re not being secretive — we just don’t have any plans. It’s just about, ‘Play the show and put all of our energy into one show’ — for once in my life, let’s just play one fucking show and care just about this one show for a goddamn change.”
Tutte le energie sono al momento incentrate sul trasformare lo show di Eaux Claires nel concerto definitivo. Ma poi?
“I definitely care about the Bon Iver thing a lot, but it’s kind of my thing and there’s only so much time you can spend with yourself before you just become an asshole. So you gotta push it.”
E riguardo al nuovo materiale che si mormora sia in lavorazione:
“I’ve been taking it really slow. I don’t mean to get all cerebral about my art, but I’ve been trying to collect improvisations and collect moments… I just think maybe I ran my course with being able to come up with new moments on the guitar.”
Insomma, per ora nulla di nuovo all’orizzonte, ma continuiamo ad attendere trepidanti. Prima o poi qualcosa di muoverà, che sia nuova musica o l’abbandono definitivo del progetto Bon Iver.
