Mat Whitecross è riuscito a riportare in vita la Oasis Mania in quasi tutto il mondo. Con l’uscita ormai due settimane fa del suo documentario sulla band di Manchester si sono anche fatte di nuovo fortissime le voci sempre più confermate sul ritorno in scena della band, seppure con le smentite del caso.
In un’intervista a NME il regista ha però voluto definire quali sarebbero i suoi sogni relativi al suo futuro legato alla macchina da presa, legato a doppio filo con il mondo musicale. A quanto pare il suo desiderio ora sarebbe quello di portare in essere un documentario sugli Smiths e un documentario sugli Arctic Monkeys. Nella sua dichiarazione nomina anche altri artisti, come Leonard Cohen, purtroppo scomparso da poco:
God, there are so many! People keep on dying this year, it’s the year from hell. As far as people I grew up admiring, I love bands like The Smiths. I love the Arctic Monkeys… I love Tom Waits. Leonard Cohen was huge figure in my life growing up… Joni Mitchell (anche).
Quali potrebbero essere, allora, i freni che potrebbero non permettergli di portare a termine dei progetti del genere? Visto anche l’enorme successo ed entusiasmo che ne è scaturito da Supersonic, che sicuramente staranno portando molte case di produzione a muoversi in direzione di Whitecross. La risposta la dà lo stesso regista. Il problema, a suo dire, sarebbe potenzialmente il troppo materiale a disposizione:
The problem is, a little bit like the problem we had with Oasis, there’s so much material, their lives are so rich, how do you fix on one specific moment in their life to talk about? […] I think with Joni Mitchell you can make 10, 20 films about her and similarly with Prince or Bowie or Leonard Cohen, where do you begin, where do you end? You have to try and think like, unless you’re making a mini-series, then how do you tell that story in the most cinematic way?.
Alla fine però si dice anche possibilista, dicendo apertamente che chiunque avesse una buona idea o un suggerimento per riuscire a compiere questo miracolo, può tranquillamente farsi avanti. Dichiarazione, quest’ultima, che fa pensare che Whitecross stia davvero valutando di ripetersi in un’opera che, finora almeno, lo ha fortemente premiato.
Parlando poi del fatto che per Supersonic è riuscito a riunire i Gallagher, Whitecross commenta la possibilità che Morrissey e John Marr possano tornare a lavorare insieme proprio grazie ad un suo eventuale documentario:
I’m just reading Johnny Marr’s book at the moment and it sounds like they met up at least once, and no one murdered anyone else so you never know. If they’re up for doing a film then yeah. Anything like that, we know Johnny’s manager’s, he’s a good friend of ours so maybe I’ll try and get on the phone one day and see how it goes.
Un’ipotesi che scalderebbe molti cuori, considerando anche che pochi anni fa si andò molto vicini all’incontro cruciale in un pub di Manchester, come anche intendeva dire tra le righe lo stesso regista.
Per ora possiamo fare due cose: sognare tra le mille ipotesi e proposte messe sul tavolo e andare a goderci al cinema il bellissimo Supersonic di Mat Whitecross.
