…E si tratta di Stephen Colbert dal Colbert Report; è tutto ufficiale, quindi niente più voci di corridoio su chi sostituirà o non sostituirà il buon vecchio David. L’unica cosa da chiedersi ora è: chi saranno i suoi primi ospiti musicali?
Che la decisione piaccia o meno ai fan del Late Show with David Letterman, pare che siano tutti molto contenti: dalla CBS, l’emittente americana che per ventuno anni ha trasmesso il programma, che si è dichiarata molto felice: (“Stephen Colbert is one of the most inventive and respected forces on television. […] He’s the best person for the job and that’s who we went with.” ), alla Comedy Central, altra emittente americana che per diciassette anni ha mandato in onda il Colbert Report, che ha augurato tutto il meglio a Colbert (“Comedy Central is proud that the incredibly talented Stephen Colbert has been part of our family for nearly two decades. […] (We) wish Stephen the very best”).
Ma cosa ne pensano i due veri protagonisti della faccenda, Letterman e Colbert? Beh, come dire, il loro primo pensiero è andato a… Oculisti e dentisti:
“I’m very excited for him, and I’m flattered that CBS chose him. I also happen to know they wanted another guy with glasses”, ha detto David,
“I’m thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth”, ha replicato Stephen.
A giudicare dall’ultima apparizione di Colbert come ospite di Letterman, comunque sia, la cosa promette bene:
