Una festa indimenticabile, quella celebrata ieri alla Casa Bianca: il 4 Luglio, giorno dell’Indipendenza americana, è stato onorato dalla partecipazione di due ospiti musicali d’eccezione, Kendrick Lamar e Janelle Monae.
La famiglia Obama al completo ha accolto i due artisti ed il pubblico per salutare tutti un’ultima volta, volgendo al termine il mandato del Presidente Barack; l’occasione è stata doppiamente significativa, trattandosi anche del diciottesimo compleanno della figlia maggiore Malia, cui Obama ha cantato il rituale “Happy birthday to you”, anticipando la sua performance con parole tenerissime:
“And just because it’s a job of a father to embarrass his daughters, I’ve got one last job. It just so happens that we celebrate our country’s birthday on the same day that we celebrate my oldest daughter’s birthday.”

Sulle ragioni che lo hanno convinto a coinvolgere K.dot e Janelle, Obama ha dichiarato:
“They’re amazing artists. I have to tell you that these two I’ve gotten a chance to know, and they are both amazing artists; talented and popular and doing great things, but they’re also very conscious about their responsibilities and obligations. They put in a lot of time and effort on behalf of a lot of causes that are important. We’re really proud of them for that.”
Kendrick si è esibito in alcuni dei suoi pezzi forti, fra cui Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe, Alright, Swimming Pools, Money Trees, Poetic Justice e How Much A Dollar Cost – la preferita del Presidente, mentre la Monae ha sfoderato una meravigliosa cover di Let’s Go Crazy di Prince.
