Presenti su tutti i palchi europei ed internazionali da qui alla fine dell’estate, i Foals hanno bisogno di riposare un po’. Dall’uscita dell’ultimo album What Went Down lo scorso agosto, infatti, non si sono mai fermati, e stanno meditando sul prendersi una pausa per comporre un nuovo disco.
Durante la cerimonia di premiazione degli NME Awards tenutasi ieri sera ad Austin, Texas, il barbuto frontman Philippakis ha dichiarato che:
“We’ve only just put out a record so I think we’ve afforded to take some time [for a break]. I don’t think there’s a rush right now. We need to live life again, that’s always benefitual to making a record. It’s hard to predict [how long that will be]. We might start writing again tomorrow.”
Yannis e i suoi si sono detti entusiasti nell’aver conquistato un pubblico di dimensioni così vaste, comprendente tanto i primi seguaci “young and hip”, quanto i 65enni:
“I like the fact that we can write songs that appeal to diferent types of people. I’m not really interested in just writing for the kids that shop at Urban Outfitters.”
Ma, e questa è la cattiva notizia, Philippakis si mostra realista riguardo al futuro della band, che neppure credeva potesse sopravvivere così a lungo:
“I don’t think it’ll go on forever. I don’t think it can. I’m not thinking about it right now because we all just get on really well and we’re having a blast. But it’s already been going on far longer than I expected it to.”
Non si stanno sciogliendo, riprendete fiato. Una pausa è più che meritata.
