Lo scorso anno ricorrevano i 30 anni dalla pubblicazione di The Queen Is Dead, terzo e penultimo album in studio degli Smiths che viene celebrato solo oggi con una speciale ristampa.
La versione super deluxe della reissue è disponibile su diversi formati: doppio CD, il primo contiene una versione rimasterizzata dell’album, mentre il secondo presenta diversi demo, b-sides e rarities; vinile, che comprende ben 5 LP rimasterizzati e il DVD del film The Queen Is Dead di Derek Jarman.

Inoltre, entrambi i box set contengono l’inedito album dal vivo Live in Boston, concerto di 13 brani registrato il 5 agosto 1986 al Great Woods Center for the Performing Arts.
In un comunicato Morrissey ha dichiarato:
You cannot continue to record and simply hope that your audience will approve, or that average critics will approve, or that radio will approve. You progress only when you wonder if an abnormally scientific genius would approve – and this is the leap The Smiths took with The Queen Is Dead.
The Queen Is Dead è considerato il miglior disco dalla band mancuniana, nonostante sia Morrissey che Marr gli preferiscano il successivo Strangeways, Here We Come.
