Qualche settimana fa vi mettemmo al corrente della collaborazione tra i Radiohead e Hans Zimmer, il compositore cinematografico noto ai più (anche) per aver coadiuvato Christopher Nolan in Dunkirk.
La band di Thom Yorke e Zimmer hanno lavorato ad un brano che sarà incluso nella colonna sonora di Blue Planet II, la serie tv a tema scientifico narrata da David Attenboroughin che verrà trasmessa da BBC One entro fine anno.
Oggi è stato rilasciato il prequel della serie, che potete guardare di seguito, in cui è incluso ocean (bloom).
La canzone è una rivisitazione, in chiave orchestrale, di Bloom, il pezzo di apertura di The King Of Limbs. Per l’occasione, oltre all’arrangiamento e alle orchestrazioni del compositore tedesco, Yorke ha registrato nuovamente le parti cantate, dando vita ad versione del brano differente dall’originale.
Il seguito di Blue Planet racconterà in sette episodi la vita negli oceani, e Yorke ha dichiarato che il suo interesse per le questioni eco-ambientali è merito, in parte, della serie televisiva:
This was me lying on the sofa trying to go back to sleep when I’ve been up too late with my son—7 o’clock in the morning, when he was small—and it coming in and out of my subconscious. And staying there. Especially stuff about the deep and these life forms they’d discovered on that series—that seemed to be the implication, that they managed to go so deep that they’d discovered all these creatures we didn’t know about—that whole thing for me, the idea of discovering life that humanity doesn’t know about, is to me one of the most profound concepts. Even if it’s discovering fossils, or the idea that creatures exist. That there’s a history to the place we live that we don’t know anything about, to me is the most profound, spiritual expression of humanity when we discover it.
