HBO ha annunciato la realizzazione della serie televisiva The Last of Us, ispirata al videogioco horror action-adventure sviluppato da Naughty Dog.
La serie è stata affidata a Craig Mazin, autore di Chernobyl, e Neil Druckmann, sceneggiatore e direttore creativo di videogame che lavorerà alla serie come produttore esecutivo.
Gli altri produttori esecutivi saranno Carolyn Strauss ed Evan Wells, quest’ultimo presidente di Naughty Dog. La serie sarà co-prodotta da Sony Pictures Television, in associazione con PlayStation Productions, di cui The Last of Us sarà la prima serie televisiva.
La serie partirà dagli eventi del primo The Last of Us, scritto dallo stesso Neil Druckmann, ma circola la voce che saranno inclusi anche contenuti di The Last of Us 2, che uscirà il prossimo 29 maggio, anche se non è certo se saranno inclusi in questa prima stagione o in una eventuale seconda.
Mazin ha detto sul progetto:
Neil Druckmann is without question the finest storyteller working in the video game medium, and The Last of Us is his magnum opus. Getting a chance to adapt this breathtaking work of art has been a dream of mine for years, and I’m so honored to do it in partnership with Neil.
Druckman ha aggiunto:
From the first time I sat down to talk with Craig I was equally blown away by his approach to narrative and his love and deep understanding of The Last of Us. With Chernobyl, Craig and HBO created a tense, harrowing, emotional masterpiece. I couldn’t think of better partners to bring the story of The Last of Us to life as a television show.
Chris Parnell, co-presidente di Sony Pictures Television Studios, ha poi rivelato che The Last of Us sarà solo il primo di molti adattamenti televisivi che saranno realizzati in collaborazione con PlayStation Productions.
