Nei prossimi mesi, al massimo a inizio 2020, dovrebbe vedere la luce il nuovo album dei Cure, il primo da 4:13 Dream del 2008.
Robert Smith aveva già anticipato a tempo debito come il nuovo materiale fosse tra i più oscuri e intensi della carriera della band, e incalzato dal Los Angeles Times ha dichiarato come i suoi recenti drammi familiari abbiano fortemente influenzato il sound del disco:
It’s very much on the darker side of the spectrum, I lost my mother and my father and my brother recently, and obviously it had an effect on me.
Nonostante la portata di simili avvenimenti, non stiamo parlando di un album totalmente dark:
It’s not relentlessly doom and gloom. It has soundscapes on it, like Disintegration, I suppose. I was trying to create a big palette, a big wash of sound.
Quanto al temporaneo titolo dell’album, Live From The Moon, c’è una storia anche dietro ad esso:
The working title was Live From The Moon, because I was enthralled by the 50th anniversary of the Apollo landing in the summer. We had a big moon hanging in the studio and lunar-related stuff lying around. I’ve always been a stargazer.
Non ci resta che aspettare, dopotutto ormai siamo abituati. Tanto il risultato – lo sappiamo – non potrà che essere spettacolare.
