La prima vera cerimonia internazionale post lockdown è stata quella degli MTV Video Music Awards 2020.
Distanziamento, esibizioni pre-registrate e pubblico limitatissimo non hanno impedito alla kermesse di portare sul palco e di premiare i migliori artisti dell’anno del mainstream popolare. Incetta di premi per Lady Gaga e per i BTS con il loro KPOP, ma anche per The Weeknd, autentica mina vagante del 2020 che ha sbaragliato anche Billie Eilish, Eminem e la stessa Lady Gaga nella categoria Best Video.
Tra gli altri vincitori, Machine Gun Kelly ha guadagnato il suo primo premio come Best Alternative con Bloody Valentine, i citati BTS che hanno trionfato non solo nella categoria di genere (KPOP), ma anche nel Best Pop in generale. E ancora Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus e i Coldplay che, a casissimo, qualcosa portano sempre a casa.
