Gli scommettitori non avrebbero puntato un centesimo sulla durata della reunion dei Libertines, pienamente avvenuta e celebrata con la pubblicazione del bellissimo Anthems For Doomed Youth lo scorso anno: contro ogni scetticismo, Carl Barat ha recentemente dichiarato che nuovo materiale della band dovrebbe essere pronto in vista del 2017, auspicando l’uscita di un nuovo disco in tempi brevi.
L’obiettivo principale è quello di individuare una sede adatta, all’interno della quale il gruppo possa mettersi all’opera insieme, condividendo gli spazi e risalendo alle origini del proprio sound, facendolo rivivere nel prossimo lavoro:
We’re looking to bed in together. We want to get our own place, which is a bit of a long and convoluted project. There’s a lot of planning and maybes which I can’t say too much about, but we’re looking at getting our own factory. If we don’t have something by next year, then my name’s not Donald Clinton.
A proposito delle attuali fonti di maggiore ispirazione della band, Barat ha proseguito affermando:
The things we write about are kind of life-long themes – it’s part of the vocabulary really. I certainly think its good to explore new ideas and write about other things but our voices are our voices and that’s not changing.
L’attesa e le aspettative rispetto a quanto giungerà di nuovo sono elevate, specie a seguito di un ritorno sulle scene così ben messo a segno:
I think we’re in a position now where the pressure is always up. It always has been. The pressure is on just to make the best record we can. I’m excited and confident that we’ve got something to say and write about as always and all that chemistry can come out true to form.
Ciò nonostante, il prossimo disco risuonerà nel più puro stile Libertines, e tale premessa rincuorerà gli appassionati:
That’s a nice way of looking at it. We’ll just be rolling up our sleeves and the hard work will pay off. Arbeit macht frei.
Nel frattempo non ci lasciano soli, essendo in arrivo già il 2 Dicembre il nuovo album solista di Pete Doherty, Hamburg Demonstrations, anticipato dalle esibizioni dell’artista il 16 e 17 Novembre sul palco del parigino Teatro Bataclan, primo musicista invitato in occasione della riapertura.
