Dopo anni passati a bighellonare, il prossimo ottobre Beck pubblicherà un nuovo album.
Il successore di Morning Phase (2014) , che gli è valso un Grammy come album dell’anno, si intitola Colors, ed è il frutto della collaborazione con il produttore Greg Kurstin, che ha lavorato tra gli altri con Adele, Sia, Kelly Clarkson e recentemente anche con i Foo Fighters.
Le registrazioni si sono tenute nello studio di Los Angeles del produttore, che nel lontano 2002 è stato anche tastierista di Beck nel Sea Change tour. Racconta così lo stesso Beck il processo produttivo di questo album:
Between the two of us, we can play everything, and we don’t have to go through the filter of other people, it’s almost like the 1960s, where you have a morning block [of recording] and an afternoon block.
Album che a detta sua sarebbe potuto uscire già da un paio di anni:
I suppose the record could have come out a year or two ago, but these are complex songs all trying to do two or three things at once. It’s not retro and not modern. To get everything to sit together so it doesn’t sound like a huge mess was quite an undertaking.
Sembra finalmente che, tra corsi di yoga, riunioni di Scientology e acquisti compulsivi di yankee candle, il quarantasettenne nativo di Los Angeles sia veramente pronto a dedicarsi nuovamente alla musica.
