Beck ha rilasciato delle dichiarazioni importanti sul suo nuovo album.
Dopo aver regalato ai suoi fan le release recenti di Wow e Dreams, nonché della canzone inserita nella colonna sonora di Fifa “Up All Night“, stiamo tutti aspettando l’uscita del suo già annunciato nuovo album, il 10mo della carriera dell’artista americano che doveva essere pubblicato già nell’estate del 2015, per poi essere stato ritardato a novembre 2016 e, infine, ritardato ancora a data da destinarsi.
Ora però sappiamo, grazie ad un’intervista rilasciata a T Magazine del New York Times, che il nuovo album di Beck uscirà questa primavera.
Il disco conterrà dieci inediti che lo stesso musicista descrive in questo modo:
Simple and uplifting and galvanising, where the spirit moves you, that kind of feeling. Those are the hardest. This new record I focused on that feeling. It’s the easiest to fail at. Or to come off on one hand disingenuous, or on the other hand just trite, or, you know, there’s that fine line between platitude and just the truth. And that fine line between making a big commotion and a bunch of movement and just actual unadulterated joy.
Il disco, sempre secondo lo stesso Beck, è molto ispirato agli Strokes, con i quali si è esibito ad Hyde Park nel 2015 per il British Summer Time Festival. Ha poi parlato della mancata collaborazione con Pharrell, con il quale avrebbe avuto la volontà di portare in essere una canzone allegra ma che ha avuto dei problemi nell’entrare nel mood giusto:
I remember having this strong feeling that I wanted to work with him. Ten years before wouldn’t have been the right time. This was the right time. And as I was walking in there, my manager asked me, ‘So what do you want to do? Do you have any songs?’ I was like, ‘I have nothing. Clean slate.
Ha poi portato a termine la scrittura del pezzo, solo che una volta presentato a Pharrell ha capito che forse la sua Happy, che era ancora in fase di produzione, avrebbe funzionato meglio, e ha deciso così di ritirare la proposta, come racconta infatti lo stesso Beck:
All I know is I want to do something that’s really happy.’ I literally walk in, ‘Hey, how are you,’ and we sit down. Pharrell says, ‘I just finished mixing this song, you gotta hear this.’ And he put on ‘Happy.’ It was one of those moments where you laugh to yourself and think, ‘O.K., so maybe we’ll do something else because I think you kinda nailed this one.
Detto questo, ci aspettiamo grandi cose da Beck e dal suo nuovo album, nell’attesa che esca finalmente questa primavera.
